I started working on Salt the Earth on June 13th, 2016, which makes it 953 days since I started this project.
My goal with Salt the Earth was to create a game that could be balanced by the players. An automated and democratic process would solve two problems at once; reduce the frustration players feel with an unbalanced meta-game, and remove the amount of time and effort developers need to spend on fixing balance.
My motivation for this was simple. I've played games all my life, and as long as I've played multiplayer games, I've been upset with the state of balance.
Omnis Rector, LLC was founded on January 1st, 2018 with the intention of launching Salt the Earth. The company name is Latin which roughly translates to "Everyone is Leader", echoing the concept I'm trying to implement with our self-balancing system. With any luck, Salt the Earth will only be the first in a series of games that implement this feature.
